Vision and Approach

OUR VISION is…

To develop empathy, compassion and commitment for social issues within a team of students using the ARTS.

OUR MISSION is…

To create a global, FREE educational program which uses the power of the ARTS to communicate the importance of social change.

OUR GOAL is…

To link each Kids Teaching Kidz school worldwide through a safe, educational WIKI site, using the workshops and afterschool clubs to promote change.

Further, Kids Teaching Kidz is a nonprofit organization that will be fully funded to cover the costs of  presenting KTK workshops to students and teachers FREE of charge, to all requesting schools and organizations, locally, nationally and globally.

In exchange, schools agree to display the student artwork locally for one year. This will create a COMMUNICATION TEACHING TOOL on major issues in their community or State. KTK would be allowed to document the KTK workshops and exhibits in the schools as an endorsement to further social education, on the KTK web site and social media. Schools would have to agree to an additional Formal Letter of Request if they want to continue with a KTK After-School Club.  Other types of KTK workshops developed for different issues, materials or teachers, through KTK would be FREE of charge.

Local KTK teachers, artisans and student interns will continue yearly KTK programs in their local schools with new hands-on workshops concerning important issues that affect their territory. These yearly programs  help to develop an important relationship, demonstrating the power of the ARTS to peacefully communicate change concerning social issues within local schools, state and country.

OUR APPROACH…

Kids Teaching Kidz is inspired by Connecticut’s Higher Order Thinking School Program (HOT), the Multiple Intelligences Theory of Learning and the TRIBES  educational approach to teaching cooperative and group thinking skills which celebrates each child’s unique voice. We use THE POWER OF THE ARTS to deepen the student’s understanding and critical thinking ability. Cooperative learning, active citizenship, shared values, respect for diversity, and concern for the common good are all a result of the democratic practices supported by KTK and the methods advocated by HOT and TRIBES programs. (CREATE, PREFORM & RESPOND)

KIDS IN AGREEMENT…

KTK also encourages the students to work with mutual respect and appreciation for each other, involving other students, using no “put-downs” and allowing others the “right-to-pass.”

IN THE END…

KTK students will use the ARTS, coordinated with Common Core Curriculum, to teach others pertinent and relevant information about issues that are important to themselves and their community!
